Claiming the Tax Credit You Deserve

STEP 1:  Are you eligible for one of these FEDERAL tax credits? (continued)

Child Tax Credit (CTC) is a tax credit of up to $1,000 for each child under age 17.  Here’s what to ask yourself:

    • Is your 2013 annual income at least $3,000?
    • Do you have one or more children under age 17 who lived with you for more than half of 2013?

Child and Dependent Care Credit (CDCC) helps working families offset the expenses of care for children or dependent adults.  You can claim up to $3,000 in care expenses for one child/dependent and $6,000 for two or more children/dependents, per year.  Here’s what to ask yourself:

    • Did you pay child care or other care expenses for dependent child or adult?
    • Did you meet the general guidelines above for the Earned Income Tax Credit?
